The cyber cell of Delhi Police said on Wednesday the Twitter accounts of the Congress party and its vice president Rahul Gandhi, hacked a few days back, were operated from five different countries.

The Delhi Police cyber cell has identified five IP addresses in different countries from where the official Twitter account of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was hacked.

The information was sent to Delhi Police by Twitter. The investigators will now write to the server heads of the countries to identify the systems from where the tweets generated.

Sources said that the tweets were reportedly generated from accounts based in the United States, Romania, Canada, Thailand and Sweden.

“The Twitter account history accessed by us reveals that the tweets were generated from accounts operated from these countries,” a senior police officer said. Police have written to the internet service providers for more details, which will help identify the persons and

login details of the accounts used to hack in.

Further scrutiny of the data of the two accounts revealed they were accessed on November 30 between 9:15pm and 9:30pm and on December 1 from 10:30am in Bengaluru, where the main server of the INC media operation is located.

The Delhi Police will also write to the five countries asking for the details of the users.

“If the details provided by them are unsatisfactory, or if they refuse to share the information, we will issue a Letter of Retreat (LR) to the competent courts in the five respective countries seeking more details,” a senior police officer said. The history details of the Congress server are yet to be obtained.

Rahul’s account was hacked on November 30; the following day, the official account of the Indian National Congress (INC) was also hacked. The hackers then flooded Twitter with derogatory tweets.
