In one of the biggest drug hauls by Manipur Police, 4.595 kg of contraband heroin and 2.80 lakh World is Yours (WY) Amphetamine tablets worth more than ₹27.79 crore in the International market were seized from eight persons during a night-long operation in and around capital Imphal, police said on Wednesday.
Indian currency totalling ₹57.18 lakh, including ₹95,000 in old currency notes, was also seized from them during the operation.
DIG (Range II) Manipur Police Themthing Ngashangva told reporters in Imphal that the operation was conducted by Additional SP Th Brinda who led a special team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border(NAB) of the Manipur Police based on a ‘credible information’.
Initially, the special team of NAB under the supervision of SP (NAB) arrested one housewife Esther Vungheinuam (22) and Mung Zou alias Aric (19), both residents of Moreh, a border town in Manipur along with another Teresa Ngaite alias Nengboi (54), all resides at at Mantripukhuri near Imphal, with 200 WY tablets and ₹2,18,000 in cash from Mantripukhuri, police said.
Following their interrogation, Thangminlun Zou (30) and Lawrence Zou (50) were later arrested along with 80,000 WY tablets and ₹42 lakh in cash stuffed in a black briefcase, which also had several passbooks and cheque books, the DIG said.

{{/usCountry}}Based on further disclosures, Lhunkhosei Zou alias Shesei Zou (51), who is the chairman of the Chandel Autonomous District Council, was arrested along with his PRO Jamkhohao (28) and one Minlal Mate (22),from his house in Lamphel area of Imphal . All three belong to the Moreh.
The seizures from Zou’s house included 2 lakh WY tablets, one 0.32 bore pistol with 21 live cartridges, one SBBL rifle with two gun licence books, one 2-wheeler, ₹95,000 in cash (old currency notes) and ₹13.03 lakh new currency notes, the DIG said.
Stating that the operation was a part of the Manipur government’s commitment to the war against drugs, DIG Ngashangva added, “We’re continuing further investigation to find out more details.”
