Jammu: Burglars steal Punjab National Bank’s ATM machine, flee with Rs 1.5 lakh

As per locals, there was neither a security guard, nor any closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the booth.

Burglars stole an ATM machine from the outskirts to Jammu on Tuesday and later abandoned it after stealing Rs 1.5 lakh from it.

During the intervening night of June 3 and 4, thieves flee with a Punjab National Bank ATM located at Mishriwala, around 15 km from Jammu. Locals informed the police in the morning, which launched a manhunt to nab the thieves.

As per locals, there was neither a security guard, nor any closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the booth.

However, police were able to located the stolen ATM from Khoga morh, Akhnoor town around 20 km from the site in the afternoon.

Superintendent of police Jammu (rural), Arun Kumar, said, “It appears that the burglary was executed between 1.30 am to 2am when it was raining heavily in the area. We have managed to locate the ATM from Khoga morh with its broken chest and as per bank authorities, there were 1.53 lakh cash in it, which we did not find in the chest.”

As per police, despite giving reminders to install CCTV camera, the bank authorities have been giving only assurances.
