A medical student from Bhopal, who was trapped in one of the coaches of the derailed Indore-Patna Express, died after being rescued from the debris on Sunday.
Komal Singh had kept talking to personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) during the rescue operation but died soon after from a heart attack.
A student at the Patna Medical College, she told NDRF men that she felt her leg had been severed. However, her leg was intact and had only gone numb from being trapped under the weight of several bodies.

The rescue team men said they reached the coach on hearing the girl’s screams. Station officer, Rajpur, said Komal was unable to move her leg. The medical student was trapped in the middle of the coach, making the rescue operation tricky. The NDRF had to use gas cutters to reach her. The rescue operation took about five hours.
Komal was apparently calm when the bodies were taken off her foot. While rushing her to the ambulance, rescuers kept assuring her that her leg was intact. But she soon after died from a cardiac arrest.

{{/usCountry}}Fourteen coaches of the Indore-Patna Express train toppled over the track early on Sunday morning, killing more than 120 people and injuring dozens more. Rescue operations continued through the day and search operations for survivors are expected to continue through the night.
