Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday announced the government’s decision to withdraw the resolutions issued in April and June to introduce Hindi as a third language from Class 1 in schools on the backdrop of a grand morcha announced by Uddhav and Raj Thackerays next week.
Fadnavis also announced the formation of a committee under former Planning Commission member Narendra Jadhav to make recommendations about steps to be taken for the implementation of the three -language formula in schools.
Fadnavis said that the government resolution (GR) was based on the Mashelkar committee report and the reports of the subsequent committees appointed on the same subject accepted by the Uddhav Thackeray government in 2020 and 2021.
Fadnavis said that the decision to scrap the resolution was not taken because of the protests, but taking the sentiments of the people in consideration and his government was not adamant on any decision it takes. "I wish Thackerays good luck if they are coming together and going ahead with the protest," he said.
Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar appealed to the people of Maharashtra to not come on the street since their government has withdrawn the decisions.
