Maoist killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma: Police

A Maoist was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Tuesday, a police official said.

The exchange of fire began in the morning on a forested hill when a team of security personnel launched an anti-Maoist operation based on inputs about the presence of cadres in the area, the official said.

“So far, the body of one Maoist has been recovered from the spot. The operation is still under way and further details will be shared once the area is fully sanitised,” Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sunderraj P said.
In a similar incident on Sunday, three Maoists were killed in an encounter in Sukma.
With the latest development, 263 Maoists have been killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year, according to police data. Of them, 234 were killed in the Bastar division, which comprises seven districts including Sukma, while 27 were gunned down in Gariaband district in Raipur division.
