The dead man, Chandra Pal (57), was employed as a postman in the postal department.

Police said the accused Tarun Pal was desperate as his girlfriend had put the condition that she would marry him only if he had a government job.

Superintendent of police (city) Maan Singh Chauhan said the body Chandra Pal was found in a jungle near Kazmabad Goon village of Partapur on February 1.

“His throat had been slit with a sharp-edged weapon. During investigation, the activities of his son were found to be suspicious. He was taken into custody on Wednesday. During interrogation, he confessed to have killed his father with the help of a friend Sunny Kumar, 21,” he said.

He said Tarun had appeared for CRPF recruitment examination in 2016 and qualified in the written examination.

“He was rejected in medical round but kept lying to the people that he has been selected. Finding no other way to get a government job, he hatched a conspiracy to eliminate his father and get his job from dependent quota,” he said.

“They slit the throat of Chandrapal and returned to the village. Some villagers spotted the body and reported the incident to Partapur police,” he said.

The police have recovered a set of CRPF uniform, a badge, monogram, two caps, two holsters, an identity card and the knife used in the murder.

The central government gives a job to a family member in case of death of an employee during his or her service period or on retirement due to health reasons. State governments also have similar provisions for their employees.
