The accused, Nansingh Marabi, suspected that his wife bore the child from another man through an illicit relationship, according to police.

When his wife had gone to fetch water outside their house in Dhangaon Rayat village, located around 75 km away from the district headquarters, Marabi alleged killed the baby with an axe and buried him inside the house, said Shahpura police station inspector Anil Patel.

“When his wife returned home, she couldn’t spot the baby in the swing and confronted Marabi, following which an altercation ensued between them,” Patel said.

Subsequently, the woman informed the police about the disappearance of her son, he said, adding that a police team recovered the body in night from the house.

“We have seized the axe and arrested the accused. He has been for murder and destruction of evidence under appropriate sections of the IPC,” the inspector said.
