Khaplang was the chairman of NSCN-K, a bitter rival of NSCN-IM since 1988. He died Friday in Myanmar.

“Based on the declaration made by our former chairman late Isak Chishi Swu on forgiveness and reconciliation, we have forgiven Khaplang,” NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah said in a condolence message.

Swu had died in Delhi on June 28 last year.

The tone of Muivah’s condolence message indicated Khaplang’s death could open the doors for unification of the Nagas.
