Border Security Force (BSF) troops gunned down a woman, suspected to be a Pakistani national, early on Monday in Punjab’s frontier district of Gurdaspur.

The incident took place when the troops spotted a movement across the fence near the Barial post.
“The intrusion was detected around 3am and the standard challenging procedure was followed. The intruder was shot dead when she kept walking into Indian territory even after the BSF personnel challenged her. It was later that we learnt that the intruder was a woman,” said a BSF spokesperson.
The spokesperson added that no major recovery was made from the 60-year-old, declining to divulge more details.
The BSF held a flag meeting with Pakistani Rangers and handed over photos of the woman after the incident.
A response was awaited from Pakistan to ascertain the identity of the woman, said the spokesperson.
