Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation on Independence Day, urged the youth of the nation to actively participate in the national Census.
Addressing the youth of the country on August 15, PM Modi said, "I am asking all of you for your help."
He appealed to the young people to take the lead in this effort. "You may feel, What can I possibly do for the country in one or two hours? Let me tell you — those one or two hours can become a great source of strength for the nation."

PM Modi pushed for building an "atmosphere of participation" in every household as India conducts its Census 2027.
"These days, the country is conducting the Census. The counting is underway. And counting is not merely about numbers. The details help shape policies and schemes. They help the country prepare its roadmap for development. Therefore, it is very important that we have accurate information," he said.

{{/usCountry}}The prime minister said the process of data collection has been made public and the citizens can upload their own information online. "Now that technology is available, a decision has been taken that you can also provide your Census information yourself through your mobile phone," he said.

This move, PM Modi said will also help avoid errors in data entry and ensure accurate information. "Later, an official or representative may come and discuss the details with you. But if the entire family sits together and registers its information digitally, ensuring that every detail is accurate and even the spellings are correct, the more precise the information you provide, the greater the help it will be in taking the country forward," he said.
He urged the people to take the form seriously and advised them to fill it out on paper first and then review the details furnished before uploading online.
"You will see — the country will be able to accomplish something very significant through this exercise, and the country’s time and resources will be used more effectively," he said.
Prime Minister Modi concluded his message with an appeal to the youngsters to actively participate in this Census exercise.
Census 2027
Census 2027 is being conducted using digital tools for the first time. Data are being collected through a dedicated mobile application while retaining the traditional door-to-door enumeration process.
Originally scheduled for 2021, the Census was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Data collection is targeted to conclude by March 1, 2027. Officials said the collation and publication of results will take two to three years.
