Prepare for more Janta Curfews, says Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday appealed to people to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the 14-hour Janta Curfew a success in the state, which has reported more than 25 cases of Covid-19 so far.

The Janta Curfew began at 7am on Sunday following an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a collective effort to fight the spread of Covid-19 as the number of patients rose to 315 across the country.

The state capital and other parts of the state woke up to deserted roads with mostly police and media personnel seen outside.

“Of the 27 positive cases in UP, 11 have been fully cured and we must ensure that these cases don’t go up. That is why I will appeal to the people to make Janta Curfew on Sunday a success.”

“Also, if required be prepared for more such Janta Curfews and self-isolation,” he said.

The chief minister also said that there are more than 2000 isolation beds and 10,000 isolation beds will be added soon.

“There are enough grains and other essentials for all and hence there is no need to hoard. I will appeal to traders to help ensure against black marketing and hoarding,” he added.

Adityanath also praised the medical fraternity for doing a commendable job in helping people “It’s important we complement their efforts by taking necessary precautions,” he added.

Services of Lucknow Metro have been suspended and government and city buses, including other vehicles, were not seen on the roads.

All shops and markets were shut even as the government has already ordered malls, movie theatres and other business establishments to close down.
