Tax payers took to Twitter on Monday, which was supposed to be the last day for filing income tax returns (ITR) for the financial year 2016-17, to report their inability to access the I-T department’s e-filing website and voice their frustrations.
The site has been experiencing technical snag since Saturday, making it difficult for taxpayers to upload their annual tax statements.
Many shared the screengrab of the website on Twitter and tagged Union finance minster Arun Jaitley requesting him to resolve the issue.
“e-filing website is down,Ppl are unable to file the return. @arunjaitley Sir,Pl resolve issue” wrote one Twitter user.
“honourable prime minister @narendramodi ji Income tax website down we are suffering lot ji @arunjaitley” posted another.

The Hindustan Times tried to access the website at 1:30 pm on Monday and encountered this error message.
The last date for filing returns has now been extended till August 5. Sources say the extension could be due to the glitches in the e-filing website.
