Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday continued to attack prime minister Narendra Modi on the Doklam issue, saying he went to China to meet president Xi Jingping but did not raise the matter.
“Chinese troops are still in Doklam & have built massive infrastructure there. The prime minister went recently to China and didn’t discuss Doklam...Somebody comes here, slaps you on your face and you have a non agenda of discussion,” he said while addressing the Indian journalists association in London
Asked what the report of the parliamentary committee on external affairs on the Doklam issue said, Gandhi said he was bound by parliamentary privilege and couldn’t reveal its contents.
On Friday too, Gandhi had cited the alleged presence of Chinese troops in Doklam as reflecting the Modi government’s “episodic” and “event-centric” approach to foreign policy.
He said the stand-off with China was not a one-off event but part of a sequence, but regretted that instead of viewing it as part of a process, the government had an ‘episodic’ approach to it.
“This government has an event-centric perspective. Doklam is part of a process; he (Modi) sees it as an event. The truth is that the Chinese are still there. If we were in power, Doklam would not have happened”, he said at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
