A teenager allegedly stamped a two-year-old boy to death after the toddler reportedly blocked his way while trying to catch a pigeon leading to the bird flying away, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Soladevanahalli in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The toddler was the third son of Basavraj, a migrant worker from Raichur who sells snacks for a living.
Police said the accused, a 14-year-old boy, whose parents hailed from Bagalkote, reared some pigeons at home.
On Wednesday afternoon, the boy spotted one of the pigeons sitting nearby on the road.
As he ran to catch the bird, the two-year old reportedly came in between. By the time he could react, the bird flew away.
Angered, the teen allegedly took the child to a nearby plantation, dumped him on the ground and stamped him to death, police said. He then fled from the spot.
When they couldn’t find their toddler, the parents went in search for him and found the boy lying in the plantation. Though the infant was rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him brought dead, police said.
The police, who registered a case of murder, learnt from neighbours that the child was last seen with the teenager.

{{/usCountry}}“The initial probe reveals that pigeon was the cause behind the incident but we are investigating other aspects too,” a police officer said.
The birds have apparently caused quarrels between the teen’s parents and neighbouring families, including Basavraj’s. A few days ago, there was even an altercation between the two families.
