Tripura autonomous district council shuts schools till Jan 13 due to extreme cold

IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky, possibly with moderate to dense fog during night to morning hours on Saturday in parts of Tripura

AGARTALA: The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on Friday ordered all schools under its jurisdiction to remain closed till January 13 in view of extreme cold weather conditions in the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Agartala on Friday reported that the maximum temperate in Agartala was 17.2° Celsius (about 8° below normal) and the minimum temperature was 12.2°C.

IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky, possibly with moderate to dense fog during night to morning hours on Saturday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 18°C and 12.0 °C, respectively.

An order issued TTAADC on Friday said, “As desired by the Hon’ble Chief Executive Member & Hon’ble Executive Member ( Edn) TTAADC, the schools shall remain closed w.e.f 03/01/2026 to 13/01/2026 due to extreme cold weather conditions. All the Practical Examinations of Class X & XII during the period mentioned above shall remain unchanged.

The TTAADC has jurisdiction over two-thirds of Tripura’s 10,491 sq.km area, and is home to over 80% of the state’s population, mostly tribals
