Tripura government on Wednesday felicitated Asmita Dey, India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games judo gold medallist, presenting her with land allotment documents along with a cheque for ₹10 lakh.
This is her first visit to the state since the Commonwealth Games.
“The Tripura government is providing so many platforms (in the field of sports) that we are confident that more talent will emerge from Tripura in the future. The future of Tripura is very bright,” chief minister Dr Manik Saha said. He also cited Arjuna awardees Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar and Montu Debnath and other sportspersons who brought glory to the state through their achievements.

Later, CM Saha posted on his Facebook, “Tripura’s Golden Girl, Asmita Dey, continues to inspire us all…Today, on behalf of the State Govt, I had the privilege of presenting her with land allotment documents and a cheque of ₹10 lakh for her glorious Judo Gold at the Commonwealth Games. Heartiest congratulations, Asmita. May you keep shining and bringing glory to our nation…”
Asmita learnt judo at a centre located at Belonia in South Tripura district and then moved to the Sports School in Agartala.

{{/usCountry}}Later, she trained at Bhopal where she also completed her graduation. While she was at Sports School, she participated in several district, state and few national level events and also took part in Khelo India and Asian Games.
From the last two years, she has been serving with the Uttar Pradesh police.
