A 22-year-old woman was shot dead at a neighbour’s house in Kashipur’s Mahuakheraganj area of Uttarakhand on Thursday afternoon, with the family living there fleeing the scene after the incident, police said.
The woman, identified as Mehbish, a resident of ward number three in Mahuakheraganj, was shot dead at the house in Udham Singh Nagar district.
On receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and took the woman’s body into custody. A forensic team from Rudrapur was also called to the spot and collected evidence as part of the investigation.
Police said the family at whose house the shooting took place fled after the incident. Teams have been conducting raids to trace and arrest the accused.
“The motive of the murder will be disclosed only after the arrest of the accused. Police are raiding to nab the accused,” circle officer of police in Kashipur Prashant Kumar said.
Police said the reason behind the shooting and the circumstances leading to the woman’s death would become clear after the accused are arrested.
