115 days in jail for insulting woman

A city court has convicted a 30-year-old man accused of “insulting a woman’s modesty” (sic) and sentenced him to 115 days’ imprisonment.

The man used to by continuously call the victim and utter obscenities. Since the convict had already spent nearly four months in prison, he would not be jailed again.

Noting that the accused has remained in jail for nearly four months, Metropolitan Magistrate Kiran Gupta said, “Considering the age of the accused and his mental condition and the fact that he has been in judicial custody since March 3, 2012 and the fact that he was in judicial custody earlier from September 2, 2008 to September 29, 2008, the accused is released on the period already undergone.”

The woman had lodged a complaint against Secunderabad-resident Raj Kumar Yadav that he used to call her at least 70 times every day since 2006 and harass her by using “filthy and obscene words”.

She said Yadav wanted to meet her at the New Delhi Railway Station, where she went rather reluctantly.
