A twelve-member delegation of top serving and retired judges, headed by Supreme Court's Justice Ashok Bhan, will attend a four-day international judicial conference here from August 11 to commemorate 50 years of Pakistan's apex court.
The conference, the first in recent times by the beleaguered Pakistani judiciary, which has functioned under the shadow of successive military rules, aims to demonstrate its significant role in establishing the rule of law in the country.
"The conference will show to the international community that we believe in rule of law and have application of laws in our country like other developed countries," Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry told reporters here.
He said the Golden Jubilee of the Supreme Court was aimed to take stock of the judiciary's performance including its achievements, deficiencies and failures, and also to evolve strategies and improve procedure for providing speedy justice.
Besides Justice Bhan, the Indian delegation will include former Chief Justices PN Bhagawati and AM Ahmadi and Delhi High Court judge HR Malhotra.
The international conference will provide an opportunity for Pakistan's judiciary and legal community to exchange views with jurists of the world, Justice Chaudhry said.
