City police have arrested three persons for car theft and recovered 14 cars from them valued at more than Rs one crore.

A special police team was formed to nab the culprits following a complaint of car theft. They arrested Sivakumar, Jaisingh and Vimal last week and they revealed to police that they had targeted vehicles whose owners had left the keys in their cars and got down for a few minutes.

The trio had managed to steal 14 cars, including top end models like Scorpio, Maruti SX4 and Toyota Innova, police said in a statement adding they had rented out the vehicles to different persons in Thanjavur and other places.
