The youngsters were set to embark on a new journey in their respective careers. But even before it began, they were left disillusioned.
The Koparkhairane police have registered a case of fraud against two people for allegedly duping several jobseekers by accepting deposit money from the aspirants.
The accused, who had promised to take the job aspirants to Hyderabad for work, are absconding.
On Monday, over 100 people assembled at Sanpada station to leave for Hyderabad by bus. However, neither the bus turned up nor did those who had organised the job show up at the venue.
After a long wait, the applicants went to the company’s office, where those present there said they had no clue about the matter. Finally, the applicants approached the police.
The duo managed a firm, Corporate Connection, in Koparkhairane’s Sector 18.
About four months ago, they issued advertisements in local newspapers promising jobs with an event management company at a monthly salary of Rs 30,000.
While the exact amount collected from jobseekers could not be immediately ascertained, the police said it could run into lakhs of rupees.
“Those below 25 years of age had to pay Rs 5,206 as security deposit and others had to pay Rs 6,068,” said Trombay resident Rajesh Kurup (23) who said he too had paid the amount.

“We are registering a case and will conduct a thorough inquiry,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Purshottam Karad.
