Twenty-five Taliban rebels were killed in battles with Afghan and NATO forces in southern Afghanistan where rebels hold a town and regularly attack British troops, the defence ministry said on Wednesday.
Fifteen rebels were killed on Tuesday near a hydropower dam in the Kajaki district of southern province of Helmand which has been the scene of heavy clashes over the past weeks, the ministry said in a statement.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Tuesday it had conducted a "successful precision air strike" against militants the same day. It did not say how many were killed.
British troops trying to clear the area to allow for work on the hydropower plant have come under regular gunfire and rocket and mortar attack around Kajaki.
The Afghan ministry said 10 other rebels were killed on Tuesday in Helmand's Gereshk district, also in the province.
"The enemies killed were planning to disrupt the peaceful lives of people," it said in a statement.
