As many as 260 fruit juice stall owners from around 40 districts of Uttar Pradesh have been arrested for serving liquor.

According to police, during a week-long drive launched on September 3 in the western part of the state, 1,302 juice stalls were found serving liquor in evening hours.

A total of 260 stall owners and 983 consumers were arrested and 1,907 were fined during the drive, police said.
Besides, 1,374 litre liquor was also seized, they said.
In the recent past, over 24 people had died after consuming spurious liquor in various villages in the western district of Saharanpur in the state. The state government had ordered a high level inquiry besides suspending a number of policemen and excise officials in the case.
