In an effort to reduce pollution levels in the city, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has decided to set up five online monitoring stations at a cost of Rs1 crore. The first such machine will be installed at Hero Honda Chowk.
As part of a central government project, the HSPCB will be installing five online ambient air quality monitoring stations at Mehrauli Road, MDI, near the HSPCB office, Huda Gymkhana Club in Sector 29 and Hero Honda Chowk. Under the project, the state will have a total of 30 such stations.
"A Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) team has visited all the five sites and the first machine will be installed soon," Pradeep Yadav, regional officer, HSPCB, said.
The locations which have been selected will give officials an average figure of air pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide from all areas including industrial and residential. Such stations have already been set up in Faridabad.
"The project cost of more than R1 crore will be borne by CPCB. The imported machines have an inbuilt sensor which will monitor pollution levels and keep displaying the figures on the machine and also on a designated website," Yadav added.
The air quality data received from the stations would be sent to CPCB and to the state headquarters of HSPCB, which has already procured equipment for continuous online monitoring stations for three towns, namely Panchkula, Gurgaon and Rohtak.
