'93 Mumbai blasts: Court asks 3 accused to surrender

All the three accused have been asked to surrender on or before Aug 10 when it is likely to start dictation of its verdict.

A designated TADA court on Monday asked three accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case, who are on interim bail, to surrender within three days or else it would cancel their bail.

The three accused include Essa Memon, prime conspirator in the case and younger brother of absconding accused Tiger Memon. The others are Parvez Khureshi and Farooq Motorwala.

All the three accused have been asked to surrender before the court on or before August 10 when it is likely to start dictation of its verdict.

Designated Judge PD Kode, on July 15, granted bail to Essa on surety of Rs 5 lakh to undergo treatment at a private hospital.

The accused had sought interim bail saying he was an obese and was gaining weight in jail. Besides his hair was falling and he was getting rashes on his body.

Essa has been in custody since his arrest on August 25, 1994. He is charged with participating in the conspiracy along with his elder brother Tiger Memon to create the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai in 1993 at the instance of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Parvez has been on interim bail for a year for treatment of a problem in pancreas.

The other accused, Farooq Motorwala, was also granted interim bail to attend his daughter's marriage.

The March 12, 1993 serial blasts killed 257 people besides injuring 713 and causing damage to property worth Rs 27 crore.
