It was a marriage that almost wasn't solemnised. And the reason wasn't a demand for dowry, but differing political leanings.

Roshan Bhardwaj didn't want to marry his daughter into a family where former Chhattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi was not admired. So when he was told by the groom's relatives that they wanted Jogi to lose the Lok Sabha elections, an enraged Bhardwaj asked the marriage party to leave.

"It was only after the timely intervention of the village elders and a subsequent apology by the groom's father that the deadlock ended and the marriage was solemnised," informed villagers.

The incident took place in Pali village. The marriage party had arrived at Bhardwaj's house and was waiting for dinner to be served.

The guests were in a discussion when the debate suddenly turned to Mahasamund, where Jogi is pitted against BJP's VC Shukla.

Bhardwaj felt Jogi would win while the groom's family thought that Shukla should defeat Jogi.

An angry Bhardwaj almost refused to marry his daughter into a family where Shukla was preferred over Jogi.
