Absconding civic body chief asked to appear in court

Karanjule has been directed to remain present in Bombay HC in connection with a petition alleging that he is involved in a murder case, reports Urvi Jappi.

Gulabrao Karanjule, president of the Ambarnath Municipal Council has been directed to remain present in the Bombay High Court on Friday in connection with a petition alleging that he is involved in a murder case and the police is not arresting him due to his political influence.

Karanjule is a Shiv Sena leader.

Ironically, Rajendra Naik, senior police inspector attached with the Ambarnath police station told the court on Wednesday that they had gone to his place but he was not traceable. He also said that they had sent three police parties in the state to trace him but he is absconding.

Denying that Karanjule’s lawyer Aabad Ponda told the court that he had appeared twice before the police for questioning.

A division bench of Justice SB Mhase and Justice SR Sathe directed Karanjule to appear before the court on Friday, December 15.

On November 24, Shailesh, son of Shivaji Shinde was murdered allegedly by Rakesh Yadav and Gulaab Karunjule. Shivaji Shinde lodged the complaint at Ambernath police station accusing Karunjule and his employee Rakesh Yadav. Police immediately arrested Yadav but remained silent on nabbing Karunjule.
