The Advocates Association of Bangalore on Thursday threatened to boycott the court of state Chief Justice PD Dinakaran in view of allegations against him.
The advocates decided at a meeting in Bangalore to send a memorandum to the prime minister, chief justice of India and the law minister appealing to them not to elevate Dinakaran to the Supreme Court nor allow him to continue as chief justice of Karnataka High Court.
"The high court has a vacation (for Dussehra festivities) from Friday till October 4. It resumes on October 5 and if Dinakaran attends the court, we will not allow him to sit in his court," TG Ravi, a spokesperson of the association, told IANS.
Asked whether they intend to block his entry to the court, Ravi said, "No. It is not like that. We will decide whether to attend his court or boycott it."
"We are sending the resolution passed at our Thursday meeting to the prime minister, chief justice of India and the (central) law minister appealing to them to ensure that Dinakaran does not attend the court. We also do not want him to be elevated to the Supreme Court," Ravi said.
Dinakaran has been short-listed for elevation to the Supreme Court. However, he was reportedly called by the Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan for clarifications following allegations about land acquisitions against him by a section of Madras High Court advocates.
