The ambient air quality monitoring system — which was to be installed in the city nearly four months ago — is lying sealed at the Vikas Sadan office of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB).
To keep a tab on growing pollution levels in the city, and as part of the Central government project, the HSPCB had decided to install five ambient air quality monitoring stations in the state.
Though the department had received the monitoring machine in May, it has not been installed till date.
The system was supposed to be installed at the entry gate of the Vikas Sadan opposite the Mini Secretariat building.
Sources said a team of the Central Pollution Control Board had visited various sites, including Hero Honda Chowk,on the expressway, before zeroing upon the Vikas Sadan.
They said the machine would have helped the pollution department of Gurgaon identify pollution levels of different pollutants and initiate necessary action.
"We have approached senior officials for the installation of the machine. We cannot do anything on our own. At present, the project is being carried out in Panchkula and we are expecting that it might formalise in Gurgaon soon," said Pradeep Yadav, regional officer, HSPCB.
