The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all for Marathi signboards, but it does not support Raj Thackeray’s way of ensuring shopowners implement the state government diktat on this.
“Some people, for their own political interests, are using this issue to ruin the atmosphere in Mumbai”, said the party’s city unit president Gopal Shetty without naming any political party or leader. “Given that the state government’s deliberate negligence has caused law and order problems in the city, the BJP will come out on the streets to protect common traders and citizens from such attacks.”
The issue came up during the meeting of the city BJP’s working committee held earlier this week. “We agree that business in Mumbai should be conducted in Marathi. It is unfortunate that people are not following this though it is a rule”, said Shetty. “What we don’t agree with is the way it is being handled.”
The BJP also ridiculed the government’s approach towards floor space index rules.
