REMEDIAL CLASSES for weak students will be held in all government primary schools from August 16 to 31. These classes will be for all class II students who have been promoted from class I despite not doing well in the final examination. An effort will be made to improve their maths and language skills.
Many class II students find it difficult to count up to 100 or recognise Hindi alphabets. A pre-test will be held in all schools to identify such students.
Thereafter, the weaker students will be divided in groups in accordance with their skills so that they can be given special attention.
The teachers of these classes will have to communicate in an interesting manner. Officials says this is the only way to help weak students.
Secretary, Basic Education, JS Deepak has issued directives to basic siksha adhikaris of various districts to make arrangements for smooth conduct of the remedial classes next month. The letter says after the classes, these students will take another test to assess the improvement, if any, that may have taken place.
Additional state project director Parthasarthy Sensharma said, “Last year, this scheme was introduced on an experimental basis in 8000 schools. In view of the overwhelming success of remedial classes, it was decided to introduce them in all primary schools in rural and urban areas. Teachers are being trained.”

He added, “A majority of the students in primary schools are first-generation learners (their parents are illiterate). We expect remedial classes to do wonders.”
