The 'All Khap Council', the overarching body of clan organisations (khaps), will hold its 'mahapanchayat' in Jind in Haryana on May 23 to press its demand for legislation to ban marriages within the same khap.

All Khap Council secretary Subhash Baliyan told reporters in Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday that the meeting of different clan heads will take a decision about the future course of action at the mahapanchayat.
He said that 18 khaps are active in western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
