Ambedkar Jayanti observed with zeal

SEVERAL FUNCTIONS were organised to mark the 115th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar here in Varanasi on Friday. A seminar was organised in the Arts Faculty auditorium in Banaras Hindu University. Director of Gandhi Vidya Sansthan Prof Dipak Malik was the chief speaker while BHU rector Prof S Lele presided over the function.

A seminar was organised in the Arts Faculty auditorium in Banaras Hindu University. Director of Gandhi Vidya Sansthan Prof Dipak Malik was the chief speaker while BHU rector Prof S Lele presided over the function.

Prof Malik said that the personality of Dr Ambedkar was like an iceberg due to which only 10 per cent of the qualities of Dr Ambedkar were seen while the remaining 90 per cent was hidden. He stressed the need of an ‘Ambedkar Adhyayan Peeth’ in BHU.Prof Malik said that Dr Ambedkar fought for equality in the society. He said that it was discrimination on the basis of caste that was causing several problems in society.

Principal of Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Prof Sushila Singh, Dean of Arts Faculty, Prof SN Pandey, Dean of Social Science Faculty, Prof. PN Pandey, Dean of Students, Prof VK Kumra also addressed the seminar. Dr MP Ahirvar conducted the proceedings of the function.Dr Ambedkar Centre of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) organised a seminar on ‘Social Justice and Dr Ambedkar’ in MGKV on Friday.

Former Vice-Chancellor of MGKV, Prof BD Mishra was the chief guest of the seminar while Vice-Chancellor, Prof SS Kushwaha presided over the function. The eminent scholars appreciated the efforts of Ambedkar Centre for the upliftment of Dalits and members of downtrodden community.

Faculty member at Banaras Hindu University, Prof AN Srivastava was guest of honour. Head of Social Science Department, Prof Ramesh Nandan Dwivedi welcomed the guests while Dr RP Pandey conducted the programme. Dr GP Dubey proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Ambedkar Vidyarthi Parishad at MGKV organised a two-day seminar on ‘Contribution of Ambedkar in Development of Dalits’ here Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, tension was palpable in Karaundi area when some people wanted to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti at the land of some other person on Friday. Sources said that some people had placed the statue of Dr Ambedkar allegedly on the land of some other person forcefully a couple of years ago and wanted to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti. Cops of Lanka police station reached the spot and did not allow any celebration. “No celebration was held at the disputed land on Friday”, said station officer of Lanka police station Samarjeet Singh.
