The hearing of former deputy superintendent of police N.K. Amin's plea to turn approver in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh killing in Gujarat was on Tuesday put off to Aug 3 by a court following objections by eight other co-accused.
A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court postponed the hearing on Amin's plea after eight co-accused in the case filed objection petition to his plea filed Monday, a day when the CBI was allowed to question Gujarat's former minister Amit Shah in jail for three days, starting July 28.
Among those who objected to Amin being made approver were former Deputy Inspector General of Police D.G. Vanzara, and two former Superintendents of Police Rajkumar Pandian and M.N. Dinesh lodged in Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad.
Amin is himself an accused in the Sheikh killing case. In his petition he sought pardon and permission to turn approver.
His lawyer sought transfer of Amin from the Sabarmati jail, where he is currently lodged with the other 15 accused, to another prison as he feared danger to his life.
