Anti-reservationists gherao AU admission committee

THE ANTI-RESERVATION group of students at the Allahabad University (AU) gheraoed the admission committee in support of their demands on Monday. Their demands included: not to implement reservation, reduction in fees, increase in the number of seats and admission process to be started immediately. The dharna was led by Arakshan Virodhi Chatra Sangharsh Morcha (AVCSM) convener Abhishek Shukla, joint convenor Vijay Dwivedi and spokesperson Pradeep Narayan Dwivedi.

The leaders expressed resentment against the proposed 27 percent reservation in higher education and said this would harm the deserving students. Those present on the occasion included Shubham Rai, Vikas Tripathi, OP Dwivedi, Sanjay Sharma, Sajid Khan, Vinay Shukla and Ashutosh Pandey among others.

Meanwhile, the All India Students Association (AISA) activists submitted a memorandum to the Allahabad University vice-chancellor Prof RG Harshe on Monday. They were demanding central university fee structure at AU, no reduction in seats, and recruitment of teachers against the vacancies.

AISA president at AU Prem Shankar said the students anticipated reduction in fees and increase in seats after it attained Central status. Since the AU had plenty of funds now, the varsity should increase the seats and additional academic facilities should be provided to the students. AISA leaders urged the authorities to recruit teachers against the vacancies to improve the academic status of the varsity. The leaders threatened to intensify their protest if their demands were not taken into consideration.Those present on the occasion included Prem Shankar Singh, Kranti Bodh, Laxman Prasad, Alok Srivastava and many others.

The students possessing roll numbers from 69002 to 773475 are directed to come at the AU Law faculty for the examination.
