Around 8 lakh voters to participate in fifth phase polls in JK

A total of 8,38,953 registered electorate will exercise their right of franchise in three districts comprising of 11 constituencies which will go to polls in the fifth phase of assembly elections on December 13.

A total of 8,38,953 registered electorate will exercise their right of franchise in three districts comprising of 11 constituencies which will go to polls in the fifth phase of assembly elections on December 13, notification for which was issued on November 17, an official spokesman said in Jammu.

The electorate, comprising 4,37,120 male and 4,01,833 female voters, will exercise their franchise across 11 constituencies- Tral, Pampore, Pulwama and Rajpora in Pulwama district; Wachi and Shopian in Shopian district and Bani, Basohli, Kathua, Billawar and Hiraagar in Kathua district.

There are 3,772 service voters included in the total electorate, who will exercise their right, he said.

While November 24 will be the last date for filing nominations, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on November 25. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed on November 27 and polling in these 11 assembly constituencies will take place on December 13, he said.

As many as 1,089 polling stations will be set up across the 11 constituencies to facilitate voters, of these, 541 are in Kathua, 373 in Pulwama and 175 in Shopian district.
