Badal condoles death of PM's sister-in-law

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal today mourned the demise of Thanantar Kaur (85), Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's sister-in-law, who died due to liver cancer in a Ludhiana hospital yesterday.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday mourned the demise of Thanantar Kaur (85), Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's sister-in-law, who died due to liver cancer in a Ludhiana hospital on Monday.

In his condolence message, Badal expressed sympathies with the PM, his wife Gursharan Kaur and other members of the bereaved family.

Thanantar Kaur, eldest among three sisters, was admitted to Dayanand Medical College Hospital on May 2. Gursharan Kaur had visited her ailing sister on May 3.

Thanantar's son Jagjit Singh, general manager, Indian Oil Corporation, who was also suffering from cancer, died 15 days ago.

He had been undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. Her husband, too, died of cancer about 20 years ago.
