Though electioneering is at its peak in the Allahabad High Court following the announcement of the date for election of High Court Bar Association (HCBA), a section of practising lawyers has made a strong demand for another opportunity to get their dues cleared, so as to become voters for HCBA election.
Quite a number of practising lawyers of the High Court had made a written demand to the chief returning officer on Friday that the date for depositing the arrears of HCBA be extended for one more day to enable them to deposit their arrears, so as to get their names included in the voters’ list.
Since then, this demand had been repeatedly raised before those who were entrusted with the task of conducting the election.
According to the laywers, the list of defaulters, which was announced every year, was not announced this time. This time the HCBA announced the list of all the members. This created confusion as they did not get an opportunity to deposit their dues in time.
Therefore, quite a number of practising lawyers have demanded that one more day must be given to them to deposit their dues, as it will not only benefit the HCBA financially, but also encourage the participation of practising members in the election process. An application to this effect was moved before the chief returning officer (CRO) on Friday.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, with the announcement of the code of conduct by the CRO, lawyers quite hopeful that unlike the past, this election of HCBA will not turn into a students’ union election.
A close contest is likely this time for the coveted post of president as three lawyers have announced their decision to contest for this post. Senior advocate Viresh Mishra, who was earlier senior vice-president of HCBA, has entered the contest for the post of president.
Present HCBA president CL Pandey and former general secretary Sadhna Upahdyaya have also announced to contest for the post of president.
