Bhopal, Lucknow, Varanasi and Rajnandgaon in semis

TEAMS OF Bhopal, Rajnandgaon, Lucknow and Varanasi on Wednesday entered the semifinals of the Inter-SAI Central Region Basketball Tournament being organised at SAI Training Centre (STC).

In the first quarterfinal match of the day played in the Pool B, Bhopal had to contest hard against Lucknow. Lucknow team took the 20-06 lead in the first quarter.

Bhopal players changed the strategy and started making long shoots. The strategy paid as the team bounced back in the match. After the second quarter scoreboard was reading 38-34 in the favour of Bhopal.

The following quarters were more intense as players of both sides never relaxed. In the keenly fought match Bhopal registered a close 73-72 win.

Mohnish Sarathe, hero of Tuesday, once again proved his talent. He was the highest scorer for Bhopal with 24 points. Second match of the day, played between Rajnandgaon and Jabalpur of Pool A, was also very close.

Excellent rebounding, fine under basket and long shooting marked the match. Rajnandgaon won 43-40. Mausam Singh scored highest 14 points from the winning side.

Semifinal and final matches were to be played later in the evening, but the rain interrupted the game. Semifinal and final matches will be played on Thursday.
