An Indo-Canadian businessman Paul Lalli's bid to replace sitting MP Nina Grewal as the Conservative Party candidate for the Fleetwood-Port Kells seat in Canada's British Columbua province has failed, with the party rejecting his bid.
Lalli's failure has cleared the way for Grewal, also of Indian origin, to run for re-election in the next polls.
Grewal was re-elected from this seat in January this year, with 33.5 per cent votes - about two per cent more than her closest rival.
Reacting to the party decision Tuesday, Lalli said: "For reasons unknown to me, the National Candidate Selection Committee has disqualified me as a nomination contestant.
"I have not been provided with any grounds for this decision. I am appealing this decision to the National Council of the Party, and won't have any comment to make until such appeal is heard."
Lalli, who is the owner of a property management business, as well as a former councillor in the township of Squamish, north-west of Vancouver, has been a member of the Conservative Party for 15 years.
"As a longtime member of the party I feel betrayed," he was quoted as saying.
