The phone number for membership — 18002662020 — and the drive was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah on November 1. The party aims to register 15 lakh new members and renew the registration of six lakh existing members.

The Delhi BJP on Tuesday organised a workshop for all BJP workers and senior leaders, including national organisation general secretary Ramlal, national vice-president and state unit in-charge Prabhat Jha, and membership campaign in-charge Dinesh Sharma to develop new strategies for enrolling more members.

Senior BJP leaders said the membership drive had been linked to the campaign for the Delhi assembly elections as it would help them reach out to a large number of voters, specially youngsters and first-timers.

Sources in the BJP said that to ensure maximum people become primary members of the party using the missed call campaign, they have done away with the Rs 5 membership fee, which was charged earlier.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said all community cells of the party such as Sikh cell, South Indian Cell, RWA cell, Doctors cell had been mobilised to strengthen the party’s reach across all socio-religious groups.

“There is immense enthusiasm among the people. This drive will see lakhs of people joining the BJP,” said Upadhyay.

The party is planning to tie-up with coffee shops and eateries that are frequented by youngsters to reach out to them. Each district and ‘morcha’ of the party has been given a target for the membership drive.
