BJP’s politics focus on only one man: Rahul Gandhi

In a veiled attack on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Gandhi said the Congress wanted to empower crores of people so that they can participate in governing the country.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who is spearheading the party’s 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign, on Friday, said the country with crores of people cannot be run by one person.

In a veiled attack on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Gandhi said the Congress wanted to empower crores of people so that they can participate in governing the country.

Gandhi, who was at Sevagram in Wardha district to interact with the peoples’ representative of Congress in local self-bodies, said that such one-manship is not in the DNA of Congress. India cannot become a superpower by encouraging one-manship and without empowering women, youths and local bodies, he said.

Gandhi was addressing a meeting of panchayat representatives from over a dozen states as part of the party’s programme to involve stakeholders from various section of its manifesto making exercise.

This is a second such initiative after Bhopal, where he interacted with the party’s women activists earlier this week. While addressing the members, Gandhi said, "Times have changed in politics and we too have changed. We must know the grassroots-level worker. Party will give ticket to a candidate with proven credentials at various levels and in accordance to a diverse set of measures. The party will give importance to women candidates and those rallying for the cause of tribals."
