"People living in those areas are also part of the city and are honest taxpayers. The process was not stopped at the time when the colonies were being built. They cannot be denied all the civic amenities, including water and electricity, which the current civic authority has claimed not to provide," said Singh said at a Congress rally organised on Sunday to facilitate the newly-elected MCG team.

Singh also touched upon the making of a Gurgaon Development Authority, which will be a sole authority to take care of the city in a better and systematic manner.

"There should be one authority that would solve all issues pertaining to Gurgaon. This would also reduce the multiplicity of authority, which is currently one of the major problems in Gurgaon," added Singh.

The facilitation ceremony was not attended by all councillors, apart from the mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor and other Congress leaders. Nisha Singh, Taro Devi and Sunder Singh attended.

“We completely agree with Singh and the issues he has picked up are pertinent to our city,” said an 80-year-old woman, who lives in the depot area.

“The new mayor has our full support in all his endeavours towards making the Gurgaon Development Authority and solving the ammunition depot issue. We face a lot of problems living without water and power,” she said.
