Private business houses should take active part in research and development of defence technology, Defence Minister Pranab Mukharjee said in Hyderabad on Thursday.
In his valedictory address at the closing function of Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) at College of Defence Management (CDM) here today, Mukharjee said there has already been some partnership with private sector in this regard.
"Big players like L&T, Tata and others are already participating in developing defence technology. But what we want is a rigorous participation from one and all," the Defence Minister said.
Government was considering the second part of Bijoy Kelkar Committee report on participation of private sector in defence technology initiatives, he said adding that first part of the recommendations had already been implemented.
