THE STATE Cabinet on Tuesday decided to grant two percent reservation to sportspersons who have made a mark winning medals in various fields in UP.
Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav chaired the meeting of the State Cabinet that took a decision in this regard at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhawan Annexe office here today. As per the decision, two percent reservation would be given from within the 50 percent of quota.
Barring appointments made through the UPPSC, the two percent reservation would be given in all other government vacancies. As a result, the sportspersons who have won medals in international, national, state, university, college and school level competitions would be given reservation in all the government vacancies of the group C and Group D categories. The State Cabinet decided to implement the 5th Pay Commission in the Sports Colleges being run by the Sports College Society at Lucknow and Gorakhpur.
The Cabinet also decided to double the maintenance charges in the cinema halls from Rs 1.50 to Rs 3 per ticket. The Cabinet, however, decided to lay down condition that the charges collected under this head would be spent only on the maintenance of the cinema halls.
The Cabinet also approved the paddy purchase policy for 2006-2007. As per the decision, the paddy would be bought from October 1 2006 to February 28, 2007 on the support price of Rs 650 per quintal announced by the Centre. A target to buy 10 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been fixed. The farmers would be able to sell 75%of their produce and payment to them would be made through cheques. The Cabinet also decided to amend the Section 29 of the Cooperatives Act —1956 to ensure that no administrators were appointed in the societies where elections had not been held. As per the decision, the Cabinet decided to extend the term of the management committees (where elections have not been held) till December 31, 2006.

{{/usCountry}}The Cabinet also approved rules for payment of Rs 500 pension to those detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and the Defense India Rules (DIR) during Emergency.
In another decision, the Cabinet decided to provide assistance in the marriages of the BPL families of the backward class. As per the proposal these families would be given assistance for marriages of their daughters and to meet the charges incurred on treatment. The Social Welfare Department would implement the scheme in the current fiscal. The Backward Classes Welfare Department would also implement the scheme in next fiscal.
The Cabinet decided to increase honorarium given for carrying out crop cutting experiments from Rs 21 to Rs 50.
The Cabinet also approved a mutual transfer policy for the employees of UP and Uttaranchal. This would benefit a number of employees looking for a change following division of two states.
The Cabinet decided to handover Poorvi Vihar Colony scheme back to UPHDB.So far this scheme was being run by UP Sahakari Awas Sangh.
