The students studied in Kendriya Vidyalayas up to Class 10 and were admitted in higher secondary schools that are under BOSE, whose syllabus and exams have been modelled on norms set by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

A group of students from south Kashmir's Anantnag district told HT they had sought admission to Class 11 in a government higher secondary school on March 23 after clearing the Class 10 exam conducted by BOSE. They had studied in a local Kendriya Vidyalaya.

"At the Kendriya Vidyalaya we were given both the options (CBSE and the NCERT). We opted for the NCERT variety," said Sujahat Farhan, a student.

The students said those appearing under the CBSE pattern could not seek admission in schools under BOSE, but those choosing the second option could.

However, the school announced in September their admission had been cancelled.

"They (the school authorities) had to cancel the admission of only those who had opted for CBSE. But they rescinded the entry of those students who had chosen the BOSE pattern also," Sujahat said.

The students said they approached education minister Peerzada Mohammad Syed on this. "He assured us our admission would be reconsidered but nothing to date has happened," Sujahat said.

"Our Class 11 final examination is in November and we don't know what to do," he said.
