Chandigarh plans to organise a mega international film festival in January 2008 when the city would have several multiplexes, Chandigarh Administrator SF Rodrigues said in Chandigarh on Friday.

"The roadmap of next twenty years for this city has taken film tourism as one of the routes to preserve the heritage, as well as educate, inform, inspire, and promote better understanding amongst people," he said after inaugurating the first Chandigarh Film Festival in Chandigarh on Friday.

The city shall soon have a multimedia university, a digital post-production facility as well as an academy for acting and direction to be set up with the assistance of noted cine artist Anupam Kher, he said.
Sixteen movies will be screened in the film festival.
