A two-year old boy died on Monday at Morigaon district in central Assam, a day after he was administered pulse polio.

Family members of Lakhi Hira said the boy was given the dose yesterday at Ahatguri village and soon after that he fell ill and ran high temperature.

The child was shifted to Morigaon Civil Hospital and died this morning.
Contacted, the Joint Director (Health) Morigaon Deepak Kumar Baruah said the polio dose was safe and free from any contamination and the child may have died due to some other health complications.
Baruah, however, said that state health department officials rushed to the spot.
