Child drowns in mother?s suicide bid

IN A heartrending incident, a two-year-old boy drowned in the Lower Lake when his mother tried to commit suicide along with him by jumping in the lake on Thursday evening.

IN A heartrending incident, a two-year-old boy drowned in the Lower Lake when his mother tried to commit suicide along with him by jumping in the lake on Thursday evening.

The mother was saved and brought out of the lake by onlookers but the child could not be saved and drowned. According to Talaiya police, the woman, Meera Bai (25), wife of Anil Singh, a resident of Bagh Sevania jumped into the Lower Lake near Pul Pukhta at about 4.30 pm.

She was carrying her son Sonu in her arms when she jumped into the water. However, as soon as the woman jumped into the lake, several onlookers gathered at the spot. A few people jumped after the mother and son in an attempt to save them.

The woman was rescued but unfortunately the child drowned in the water. Police were informed and they reached the spot. The woman was sent to Hamidia Hospital for a medical check-up while her deceased son’s body was sent for postmortem.
